Time Machine Controller is designed to allow the user to set their own backup schedule using Apple's Time Machine software which is included with Apple's Leopard and later versions of the OS.
Apple's Time Machine software will backup your files every hour, every day, every week, etc. until your backup volume is full. This is great for the majority of users when dealing
with small files. Once the first backup has been done, Time Machine backs up every hour, only the changes that have been made. That is another nice feature.
So here's the problem. When opening a large file, it gets flagged to be backed up, even if you are just reading it. If this file is a disk image, a database file, or a virtual disk image, these files can be very large. Your computer will spend most of its time doing backups in the background while you continue to work. The outcome can be a visual slowdown in performance to you. The problem is even worse when the backups are being sent over your local network to a shared backup server and several users are doing backups simultaneously. All that network congestion can really slow things down.
The Solution? Enter Time Machine Controller. Now you can schedule backups to take place during off hours, usually when you are away from your computer. You set the date and time when the backup occurs and you are done.
